Kloster Ettal

4 km Benedictine monastery founded in 1330. Decidedly remarkable is the rococo church - finished in 1752 - with its large ceiling fresco in the dome. In the very busy monastery there is also liqueur prepared and beer brewed. The monastery as well runs several inns. Tel. +49 - (0)8822 - 74-0

Rottenbuch 30 km 763 m, Welf IV, Duke of Bavarian, founded the monastery in 1073, basilican complex, Romanesque about 1100. Rebuilt to late-gothic in the 15th century. Decorated by the rococo artist J. Schmuzer, fresco paintings of Matthias Günther, late-gothic Madonna with Child of Erasmus Grasser, altars and pulpits of Franz Xaver Schmädl.
