Castle Hohenschwangau 49 km Below the castle of Neuschwanstein there is Hohenschwangau castle. On the foundation walls of old castle buildings King Maximilian of Bavaria let build this castle in about 1832. Here too guided-tours take place which show among other things frescoes of German history. Castle Schachen 4 hours to walk 1876 m above sea-level - at the Schachen underneath Dreitorspitze King Ludwig II let build this castle in 1871. It looks like a Swiss house from outside. To visit Schachen castle please ask the opening hours and book at the Schachenhaus. Worth seeing as well is the alpine garden underneath the castle, which shows the mountain flora of all great mountain groups in the world.
